Singapore launches Services and Digital Economy Technology Roadmap

The Singaporean Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA) on Thursday launched Singapore’s Services and Digital Economy Technology Roadmap, which puts Services 4.0 at the core of Singapore’s digital economy.

The launch was announced by Minister for Communications and Information S Iswaran at IMDA’s second SG:Digital Industry Day, which saw more than 1,500 participants from the ICM industry attending the event.

Services 4.0 was identified through the Services and Digital Economy Technology Roadmap (SDE TRM) as a potential engine of growth for Singapore’s digital economy, as the services industry accounts for 72 percent of Singapore’s GDP and 74 percent of national employment.

The TRM, conducted in consultation with local and international business leaders and technology experts, provides a scan of the digital technology landscape in the next three to five years, identifying the impact of key shifts and technology trends.

IMDA said Industry 4.0 has its transformative impact not only on the manufacturing sector, but also on the services sector.

Against this context, the next generation of service providers must be able to anticipate and empathize with the customer, and take proactive, automated actions to enable the customer to seamlessly fulfill their needs in one platform.

These are the defining features of Services 4.0 – IMDA’s vision for the next-generation of Singapore’s services sector that is end-to-end, seamless, empathic and anticipatory of customer needs.

“Leading business-to-consumer enterprises have already started their Services 4.0 journeys,” Tan Kiat How, IMDA’s Chief Executive, said at the event.

“Businesses of all sizes can benefit from the new technology shifts, and IMDA’s programs will provide the support to help every business become a digital business.”

The IMDA is amplifying these benefits and making them accessible to many more companies, regardless of their size, by enabling info-communications media (ICM) solution providers to deliver more cost-effective, agile, and scalable solutions and piloting a two-year program called the Digital Services Lab to bring together industry and research partners to solve sector-specific digitalization challenges.

Guests to Thursday's event also had a chance to try out several innovations of local firms.
