Hanoi plans USD1.72 billion to build four bridges

Hanoi’s authorities have planned to build four bridges across the Duong and Red rivers with a total investment capital of VND38 trillion (USD1.72 billion).

The move is aimed to ease the city’s traffic jams at peak hours. This includes construction of 3-km Tu Lien Bridge and a 9-km road linking the bridge with Hanoi-Thai Nguyen Highway.

The VND17-trillion project will be constructed on a public–private partnership (PPP) and build-transfer basis. The construction is scheduled to be completed in 2021.

The Tu Lien Bridge helps connect the West Lake area and the Co Loa historical site in Dong Anh District. Another project is to build Duong 2 Bridge with the capital investment of VND6 trillion. It is also expected to be put into operation in 2021.

According to the Hanoi People’s Committee, the current Duong Bridge has shown signs of deterioration.

The new bridge will help to reduce the traffic on the existing bridge. Meanwhile, the city will build the 3-km Tran Hung Dao Bridge over Red River. The VND7-trillion bridge is hoped to become operational in 2019 to ease traffic for Long Bien and Chuong Duong bridges.

The remaining VND8 trillion will be spent on Giang Bien Bridge which runs through Long Bien and Gia Lam districts. Hanoi currently has Thang Long, Thanh Tri, Nhat Tan, Vinh Tuy, Dong Tru, Duong, Long Bien and Chuong Duong bridges running over the Red and Duong rivers.
